The problem, he said: "The system worked exactly as it's designed. How does 2013 Florida have a law that seems cut and pasted from 1881 Tombstone?" In Florida, Oliver noted, "you can get a gun, follow an unarmed minor," have police "explicitly tell you to stop following them," then "keep following the minor, get into a confrontation with them, and if at any point during that process, you get scared, you can shoot the minor to death." Oliver's conclusion: "I think it might honestly be time for the Sunshine State to officially change its motto"—to "the Worst State." |

Every word is true. I dont' know what to write at this moment, it's all overwhelming. I've read so much, but can't or don't want to believe that some people are so nonchalant about this young man's death. When I read about the juror who on day two announced her book deal, that about did it.

I've read so much, but can't or don't want to believe that some people are so nonchalant about this young man's death. When I read about the juror who on day two announced her book deal, that about did it. Loved Oliver's analogy of Florida looking like a cross between a gun and a d*ck. I seriously worry about the state of our union. |

The Trevon/Zimmerman case:
The jury ruled on the facts and actual events instead of media hype.
If you leave out the racism...
A teen was in a gated community where he had no legal right to be.
A neighborhood watch guy took his duties way out of bounds.
They were both wrong.
Had Zimmerman been charged with manslaughter, he could be in prison right now.
Instead the racists demanded he be charged with murder, so he got off.
Had Trevon lived, he could have been charged with trespass and 'assault and battery'. (both proved to the jury btw)
Zimmerman kept the gun in his pocket until after his head was being slammed on the ground repeatedly.
That is why he was found "not guilty" of murder.
I repeat they were both wrong.
Leave the racism out and that is obvious.
Like Dr King said: "Judge... by the content of their character, not the color of their skin."
As far as the self defense law:
I have been assaulted by gun wielding thugs, and had to fight for my life.
Convicted felons with guns (the law forbids convicted felons even being in the same house or car as any gun btw)
Convicted felons with guns tried to shoot me...
One armed robber, deciding to ''kill the witness''...
Three drunks, using me and my motorcycle for target practice... as I rode home from a night job.
A father and son trying to kill me to prevent me reaching the police to charge them with attempted murder.
Gun grabbers would have me disarmed and unable to defend against these felons who are already forbidden guns, who yet had guns illegally.
I've been persecuted by overzealous prosecutors after a self defense shooting.
A Detective told me, when he gave my gun back:
"They ran it through two grand juries.
Both refused to indict.
One juror even said: 'Indict him? Hell, give him a medal!' ..."

But he persued anyway. Put yourself in Trevon's shoes for a second. Here is this big ugly guy persuing you for blocks in a threatening manner. You might be cutting through the ritzy neighborhood or visiting your girlfriend, as kids often do. Zimmerman viewed himself as the lone militia despite orders to cease & desist by the police. Trevon @ 5'11, in the prime of his life and physical abilities,"had the ability to beat down the little middle aged hispanic. He chose to do so. Zimmernam:

At the time of the crime, Zimmerman was not clinically obese at all. He was relatively slim and in good shape, he had been attending martial arts training for a long time. If Martin was straddling Zimmerman as Zimmerman claimed, Zimmerman could never have reached for his gun. Conversely, if it was Zimmerman who was straddling Martin (as two witnesses said he was), he would have had no problem reaching for his gun and shooting Martin. |

We either believe the media hype or look for the facts ourselves. I believe the expert testimony more then the reporters. Others have the right to believe the reporters instead of the physical evidence. I just looked at pictures taken as Zimmerman was being examined and treated by paramedics, at the scene. He looks much smaller than the obese Zimmerman described in court. It seems that the gun crowd is threatened by the reaction to this latest example of American paranoia and insanity, and lashes out. A white teen illegally in a gated community would have been treated by neighborhood watch Zimmerman, exactly the same, but racists would not have called for Zimmerman's hide after his legal act of self defense. Racists see only skin color. And that sickens me. Like Dr. King said: Judge by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. By that standard, Trevon was a thug. I happen to be a light skinned black. So don't call me a racist. |
