What is the point of even having a forum, if you have to put up with such draconian measures from outside interests? "As a consequence, I am deleting the b00bies and b00ties boards, and I ask you to not post "adult" pictures with bare breasts and bare bottoms.
So sorry about that - I thought that what had been posted was pretty innocent. Some "guest" must have reported it."If the prudes can come in and narc on the site for whatever reason to impose censorship, then why bother putting the effort into posting? I did not post often at current. I post more here and the watchers are paying attention. They fear someone else will pay attention to what I say. That scares them. That kind of thing makes you reconsider if it was as paranoid as it first sounded when those actions have followed. Either way it doesn't bode well for the growth of the forum.

The warning (in big red letters) I received from ProBoards Abuse Department means that if I don't comply with the TOS ( www.proboards.com/tos) this site will be terminated by ProBoards. Would you rather this site be terminated? I only did what I had to do in order to preserve this site for everyone. I have put a great deal of work, time and effort into it, and I don't want to see it gone. Is all the work, time and effort I put in worthless in your eyes? I hated having to delete the b00bies topic and boards, believe me. The hosting site, ProBoards, has rules and users are expected to follow them, and this site and its members are their guests - we have to respect the host's TOS. Current may have been more permissive, I give you that. Excerpt from ProBoards TOS: 18. OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT You represent and warrant that you shall not use the Website or Services to upload, post, transmit, display, perform or distribute any content, information or materials that: (a) are libelous, defamatory, abusive, or threatening, excessively violent, harassing, obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or pornographic; (b) constitute child pornography; (c) solicit personal information from or exploit in a sexual or violent manner anyone under the age of 18; (d) incite, encourage or threaten physical harm against another; (e) promote or glorify racial intolerance, use hate and/or racist terms, or signify hate towards any person or group of people; (f) glamorize the use of hard core illegal substances and drugs; (g) violate any provision of this Agreement or any other ProBoards agreement or policy, including without limitation ProBoards' Community Guidelines; or (h) is generally offensive or in bad taste, as determined by ProBoards (collectively, "Objectionable Content"). PROBOARDS DISCLAIMS ANY PERCEIVED, IMPLIED OR ACTUAL DUTY TO MONITOR THE CONTENTS OF THE WEBSITE AND SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS ANY RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY FOR INFORMATION PROVIDED HEREON. Without limiting any of its other remedies, ProBoards reserves the right to terminate Your use of the Website and Services or Your uploading, posting, transmission, display, performance or distribution of Objectionable Content. ProBoards, in its sole discretion, may delete any Objectionable Content from its servers. ProBoards intends to cooperate fully with any law enforcement officials or agencies in the investigation of any violation of this Agreement or of any applicable laws.

I just asked if it was worth it. You can make the choice to "respect" their TOS or change to a different software that has a better TOS. ProBoards is NOT the only one that hosts forums available.
What good is it if people lose interest in posting because of the restrictive TOS? Where has all that "great deal of work, time and effort" gone then?
It's up to you to make the tough choice, accept the current rules and gamble on continuing with a possible slow decline to stagnation.
Bite the bullet with all the effort in changing software and gamble on a possible growth to a better forum. Each way has both advantages and disadvantages.
So you have to decide which is worth it, for both the short term and long term.

ProBoards is the best free offer I found after spending hours searching for and exploring a vast number of such hosting sites. They all have the same rules in their TOS, too. I am not going to scrap this board just because the adult content breached the TOS, whoever reported it.

I wasn't going to mention this but this latest revelation has changed my mind.
Sometimes when I post a story I notice that immediately 5 to 10 people have viewed it within minutes. When I check the forum stats it shows that I am the only member online with 2 or 3 guests.
How is this possible? Is ProBoards monitoring us?

If you refresh it, go to it to see if there are any replies, decide to modify it, each time will count as one view. I have posted new threads when there were quite a few members and a fair number of guests online, and only had one or two views. With regard to ProBoards monitoring us, I reckon they are checking to see if I have done the necessary with regard to the warning I received.

I have recently had two heart attacks, two eleven-day hospitalizations, three stents installed, eighteen months of intensive stress and worry because I had no income for that period of time and was threatened to be evicted from my apartment. I take vast amounts of medicine every day and I am very tired and low on energy, so no, there is not going to be any bullet-biting from me.

I take vast amounts of medicine every day and I am very tired and low on energy, so no, there is not going to be any bullet-biting from me. I can understand that, since it does take its toll. I guess then its up to all the members to decide whether or not its worth finding another forum to post on. It's not only "adult content" that's at issue because "generally offensive or in bad taste, as determined by ProBoards"
can be interpreted to mean a whole lot of different things especially when the "determination" is in other hands for the standard of the intent or context

So far, only the adult content seems to have attracted their undesired attention. There are well over 1,000 posts in here, they haven't been flagged by anyone. The same rules apply in all the great many free boards I have explored. As long as one is not the owner of the hosting site and server, that is how it always will be.

"Some "guest" must have reported it.""So far" but it depends on whether or not the "guests" had much to do with it and what they would be willing to do more to get their way There are communities in America that have problems due to inbreeding. Ask the Amish if that is a good idea. How could that be interpreted and to stop any complaints what would ProBoards determine to "have done the necessary" about it?

You are such a sweetheart for doing this for all of us, especially with what you are going through. Bless you and be well!

Just wanted to say all of your efforts here are even more appreciated. Taking care of yourself is more important than anything. Where is V for Vendetta?
