While watching this the idea flashed in my head that space aliens must be controlling the oil industry. Their motive is to cause humans to terraform Earth into a planet that will be suitable for a life form that requires a much warmer habitat. When the planet becomes sufficiently warm all humans will be eliminated. Does Mr. DuBois own an oil company perchance?

Hey thedirtman - no, I ain't affiliated with big oil. But I agree that the aliens are trying to take our planet from us. This ain't no joke, and we should all be on the lookout for suspisious beings in our midst. Beware!

And so there was peace on Earth… from time to time anyway. God’s terraformers became busy creating a new Earth. That is, this restored Earth that would be suitable for the host civilization. One that was free of the vile cold air. The pyramids were just a test, a mere warm-up for the real purpose that God had intended for man.
Busy, busy, busy the terraformers must stay. Busy they would be thrusting their vehicles to work every morning without delay. Busy the people would be extracting the planet’s organic fossilized fuels. Busy they would stay accumulating a hoard of atmospheric greenhouse gases that would one day serve to cause the cataclysmic release of reduced carbon – methane gas traps stored under the permafrost of the north. The release of the methane restores warmth the host civilization wants and needs, and will facilitate the return.
The cycle was familiar to the host. The results of the Permian extinction had been wondrous. The oceans had swelled to create beaches in Colorado, sandstone formations in Arizona, and a ubiquitous warmth in the seas capable of supporting large dinosaur bodies.
Yes, this time promised to be even better
