I'm having a hard time uploading my avatar. I tried using a URL but no luck. Can we use a JPG from the desktop? Thanks again for the refuge!

It's so nice to see you here! I am just crushed by the sudden loss of so many dear contacts at Current. I'm interested in the notice above: "Between April 29th and May 29th this forum will be upgraded, bringing new features and functionality." Let's do everything we can to help V with this phoenix!

To add an avatar, you first need to host the image somewhere it can be reached. This means a direct link to the image, so the URL should end in .jpg or something. Then, under your settings, paste that URL into the option that says "Link to Avatar" and it should show up once you've saved your settings. If you want a signature image, it's the exact same thing, except you need to put in front of the url and [/img] at the end of it.

I opened an account with ImageShack and uploaded several jpgs. I'll continue trying to download my avatar here (6 attempts so far). There are too many choices of urls! Thanks for the tip "ending with jpg."

I want to add an avi from the pics on my computer hard drive -- I tried putting in the number of the pic and adding jpg to it but it didn't work . You need to host your image on a website - I recommend imageshack.us/ - once it is uploaded, you get the direct url which is what you need to use in your profile. Make sure that it is no larger than 100p by 100p I also recommend that you register with ImageShack - it is free unless you wish to purchase a premium account - so that you have your own "gallery" there to which you can upload other images from your computer (and also from websites, the instructions are easy and clear), which you can then post in the forum using the "insert image" icon above the message window when you are posting. It is the fourth from the left starting with the YouTube icon. For posting YouTube videos, you click on the YouTube icon and then copy paste the url of the YouTube video in the middle between the two sets of square brackets. I hope this helps.

Vierotchka, thanks for suggesting image shack. I had forgotten I had registered there some time ago.

If ImageShack gives anyone problems, tinypic.com is another good image hosting site.

I had to try posting each link it showed and finally the last one worked, Hell I tried to find my old Photobucket, but haven't used it in years and when I sent for my password or log in, it no longer had me there, so I ended up using the Shack... How do people know where comments are being posted???

How do people know where comments are being posted??? Unfortunately, comments don't show up directly under posts if other posts have been published, they will show up further down the page. Remember to use the "quote" function which you will find at the top of the post you wish to respond to, on the right-hand side.
